The history of the Department dates back more than thirty years. In 1986, the Department of Economic and Social Geography was created on the basis of the Department of Physical Geography and Geology. It was managed by the Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Solomentsev Ie., Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences, Professor Bulhakov V., Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Kulikovska O., Doctor of Pedagogic Sciences, Professor Buhrii O., Doctor of Geological Sciences, Professor Paranko I.

Nowadays the Department of Economic and Social Geography and Methods of Teaching, under the guidance of Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Senior Researcher Holoshin I., provides training for specialists of Bachelor and Master’s levels in the field of training 014 Secondary education (Geography).

The Department of Economic and Social Geography and Methods of Teaching is working on the topic “Methodical learning conditions of “Geography of the native land. Kryvorizhzhia: the socio-economic aspect”. In addition, scientific activities are related to the development of methodological training of future geography teachers in the field of geoinformatics and the application of geoinformation systems in the practice of geographic research, the organization of specialized geography training, professional training of future geography teachers. Academic staff of the department systematically participates in the All-Ukrainian and International conferences, congresses and conferences.
