The Department of Pedagogy was established simultaneously with the opening of the Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical Institute in 1930. Until 1987, it existed as the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology. Since 2024, the Department of Pedagogy has been included in the Faculty of Pedagogical Education. Since January 1, 2024, the Acting Head of the Department is Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor S. Shcherbyna. According to the staffing table at the beginning of the academic year 2023-2024, the department has 2 Doctors of Pedagogical Sciences, Professors (T. Doronina, S. Kucher), 6 Candidates of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professors (O. Bilous, V. Ivanova, A. Korol, I. Makarenko, O. Potapenko, S. Shcherbyna), 1 Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Senior Lecturer (I. Kovalenko). Teachers of the department carry out research, methodological and organizational activities in accordance with the general work plan of the department and the university.

The department has offered a postgraduate programme since 1992.

Since 2016, it has been training specialists of the third (educational and scientific) level in the speciality 011 Educational and Pedagogical Sciences (field of knowledge 01 Education/Pedagogy).

In 2017, the Department of Pedagogy opened a Master's degree programme in 011 Educational and Pedagogical Sciences.

The teaching staff of the Department provides basic (normative) pedagogical disciplines ("General Pedagogy", "Methods of Educational Work") at all faculties of the University within the framework of educational and professional programmes for the preparation of bachelors in pedagogical specialities; the course "Modern Educational Paradigms and Technologies" (for master's students); courses provided for in the curricula for the preparation of masters in the specialty 011 Educational and Pedagogical Sciences (field of knowledge 01 Education) and higher education applicants for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (postgraduate studies).

In 2015, the Department of Pedagogy initiated the publication of two scientific journals: "Pedagogical Kryvyi Rih" and "Gender Paradigm of Educational Space".
